In a shocking turn of events, a whale capsized a boat off the coast of New Hampshire on Tuesday, leaving one person dead and another seriously injured. The incident, which unfolded just before sunset, has sent shockwaves through the local community.
According to the US Coast Guard, a mayday call was received at approximately 5:30 pm, reporting that a boat had been struck by a whale and overturned. Two people were reportedly thrown overboard by the impact.
One of the victims, identified as 52-year-old Ryland Kenney, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other victim, whose name has not yet been released, was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
Surveillance footage from a nearby home captured the harrowing moment when the whale breached out of the water and struck the boat. The boat is seen violently flipping over, ejecting its occupants into the water.
Eyewitnesses on shore expressed shock and disbelief at the incident. One witness described hearing a loud crash and seeing the boat "flying through the air."
