Assam: Sarbananda Sonowal congratulates Assam players for winning medals at Tokyo Olympics
Guwahati, Aug 8 (PTI) Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday congratulated the Assam players for winning medals at the Tokyo Olympics, saying their achievements have brought glory to the state.
Boxer Lovlina Borgohain won a bronze medal in the women's welterweight category, while weightlifter Mirabai Chanu bagged a silver in the women's 49kg category.
Sonowal said that the Assam government is committed to providing all possible support to the sportspersons of the state so that they can excel at the national and international level.
"The performance of our players at the Tokyo Olympics is a testament to their hard work and dedication. They have made Assam proud and we are all very happy for their achievements," Sonowal said.
The chief minister also announced that the state government will felicitate the medal winners upon their return to Assam.
"We will organise a grand felicitation ceremony to honour our Olympic medal winners. They have made Assam proud and we want to show them our appreciation," Sonowal said.
The chief minister also urged the people of Assam to continue supporting the state's sportspersons so that they can achieve even greater success in the future.
"Our sportspersons are our pride and we must continue to support them in every possible way. I am confident that they will continue to make Assam proud in the years to come," Sonowal said.
