The United States Men's Basketball Team Wins Gold

The United States men's national basketball team competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece. The team was led by future Basketball Hall of Famer Tim Duncan and also included other stars such as Allen Iverson, LeBron James, and Dwayne Wade. The Americans won their fourth consecutive gold medal, defeating Argentina 84-69 in the final.

The Tournament

The men's basketball tournament at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens began on 15 August and ended on 28 August. The tournament was played in a single-elimination format, with the top four teams advancing to the semifinals. The United States defeated Argentina, Spain, and Italy to reach the final, while Argentina defeated Greece, Australia, and Lithuania to reach the final.

In the final, the United States took an early lead and never looked back. Duncan led the way with 20 points, while Iverson added 18 points and James added 15 points. Argentina was led by Manu Ginóbili, who scored 29 points, but it was not enough to overcome the Americans.
